INTRODUCTION TO RMU

Research Management Unit (RMU) has been set up by AIKOL in 2007 to handle all affairs related to Research in the Kulliyyah. This move is guided by the IIUM’s strategic planning to become a research based university by 2015. There are several strategic initiatives planned by RMU to promote and improve the research culture in AIKOL to ensure staff is well-trained with required research skills and driven to produce quality research and publication.

RESEARCH MANAGEMENT UNIT AIKOL – Quality Objectives

1. To enhance skills in research management
   1. Each academic staff to attend national/international conferences and training on skills at least once a year
   2. The Research Management Unit is to organize training at least one session on improving research skills at least once per year
2. To provide conducive research management
   1. The Kulliyyah to provide resources facilities and keep staff updated of all types of research funds available from various other funding agencies besides the internal grants provided by the Research Management IIUM
   2. Endowment Type A research Grant (RM5000.00) will be processed at Kulliyyah level within 5 working days
   3. Endowment Type B Research Grant (RM20000.00) to be processed within 4 weeks at Kulliyyah level
3. To ensure effective management of research
   1. 30% of academic staff to be actively involved in research activities
   2. To provide efficient and reliable monitoring system of research projects by updating the progress of research activities
   3. One (1) subject, one (1) research per year
   4. At least one (1) research cluster is established every 2 years
4. To ensure effective management of Research and Publication
   1. To promote continuous research activities among staff
   2. Each staff with Ph.D to be a principal researcher of at least one research project per year
   3. 50% staff with Ph.D to publish a book or an article in a refereed local or Scopus listed journal
5. To generate effective dissemination of research output
   1. Research outputs to be sent to the Research Centre within one month after completion
   2. Research outputs to be presented in seminars and/or published in journals

The quality objectives outlined above assumes an important role in guiding the Research Management Unit in planning, promoting and achieving Quality Research for AIKOL
