ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE OPENING OF MALAYSIA-SPAIN JOINT PROGRAMME: MALAYSIA-SPAIN INNOVATING PROGRAMME FOR 2019

We are pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education (MOE) through the Higher Education Department (JPT) in collaboration with the Malaysian Industry Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and The Center for the Development of Industrial Technology, E.P.E. (CDTI) has agreed to open the Malaysia-Spain Joint Program - Malaysia-Spain Innovating Program (MySIP) in 2019 under the MyPAiR initiative. The opening of this application is specific to the implementation of innovation project cooperation in the following areas:

      I.        Sustainable City Development 

     II.        Knowledge-based Economy/k-Economy 

    III.        Advanced Manufacturing and Materials

Malaysia Partnerships and Alliances in Research (MyPAIR) is a KPM initiative in strengthening Malaysian research through industry and international research cooperation. The research collaboration undertaken under MyPAIR is a joint project implementation with colleagues from industry and academic sectors both nationally and internationally. Research collaboration is achieved through the sharing of expertise, resources, tools, and infrastructure in the execution of research activities.

This program is created to encourage and promote market-driven research and technology development as well as to promote cooperation and research, development and innovation (R&D & I) cooperation projects between entities from both countries through funding matching from JPT, MIGHT and CDTI. Researchers from the Public University will be funded by the JPT and the provision of Malaysian industry partners will be funded by MIGHT while the provision for Spanish industry partners will be put under CDTI funding. Project members must meet the requirements of the application in accordance with the MYSIP Guidelines.

WHO CAN APPLY?

·         Eligible Malaysian Applicants

·         Projects can be either business or research organization-led, but must involve a Malaysia business of any size and/or involve a Malaysia research organization / academia and collaborate with a Spain business and Spain research organization.

Key Malaysian academic eligibility criteria include:

  • Research Organizations (ROs) eligible to apply are Public Universities. Researchers based in other ROs can be a Co-Investigator but not eligible to apply as a Principal Investigator.
  • The Malaysian PI must have been awarded a doctorate at the time of application. Applicants working towards a PhD or awaiting the outcome of their viva/submission of corrections are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be Malaysian citizens and hold a permanent or fixed-term contract in an eligible university or higher learning institute in Malaysia. Applicants with fixed terms contracts finishing before their grant end-date must secure confirmation from their RO stating that their contract will be extended to cover the duration of the award if their application is successful.
  • Contact between the Malaysian PI and other collaborators prior to the application are essential. This contact should lead to a clearly defined and mutually beneficial project proposal. Please note that MOE will not assist in locating external collaborators.
  • The Malaysian applicant’s employing organization must be willing to agree to administer the grant.

1.     Applications must be prepared jointly with the co-researcher using the application template provided; Application Form.

2.     The application should be submitted by Project Leader from Malaysia via the listed email. The same application must also be submitted by the Spanish Researcher via the CDTI website.

3.     The application must be approved by the Research Management Center (RMC) before being forwarded to the management.
