COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM AT BATU 14 GAMBANG INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY

Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has embarked on a journey of making transformation and creating high impact for sustainability through its Whole Institution Transformation (WIT) with the strategic mission of humanising education through Sustainable Development Goals and Maqasid Shariah (Basic Human Needs of Existence) since 2018. One of the strategies is to outreach the indigenous communities surround our campuses.

A community empowerment program was held at Batu 14 Gambang indigenous community on 1st March 2023. The program is a joint venture between CFS IIUm and MUIP. There are around 65 families in the village and 15 Muslim families. The rained heavily the whole day and the road inundated with waters. This does not dampen the spirit of our volunteers.  A team of 20 staff and 8 students attended the program. The program starts with the cleaning of the surau. We clear our all the dust from the curtains, ceiling, fans walls and carpet. We also clear and mop the floor. We have congregational prayers with the community there. The program follows by tazkirah by Ustaz Sharif, Head of Spiritual Development Department and followed by Ustaz Hasanul Basri from IRK department regarding the holy month of Ramadhan. After the Isya’ prayers, we delivered token of appreciated to the communities there.

The program managed to seal a strong bond with the community there. Hopefully by the empowering the community, it will create a sustainable environment for future development imbued with Madani approach.
