Kuala Lumpur - - The International Conference on Language, Culture & Society 2018  (ICLCS18) organized by Department of English and Literature, Department of Sociology and Anthropology and ISTAC of IIUM will be held from 24 to 25 October 2018 at ISTAC.

The conference officiated by IIUM Deputy Rector, Prof Isarji Hj. Sarudin representing Rector Professor Tan Sri Dato Dzulkifli Abdul Razak. The conference examines issues relating to the crucial role technology has played in our daily lives and its unintended consequences, such as self-imposed social isolation and cultural homogenization.

However, without technology, such as the Internet and World Wide Web, knowledge and information could not have enriched our learning, work and living experiences.

It also looks into how the digital technology has shaped every aspect of our lives and its impact on the dynamics of social transformation continue by asking the question  “Where would our valued traditional values and cultural heritage be and what legacy are we leaving behind in the wake of technological over-dependency?”

At this conference, academics, social workers, members of NGO’s, arts practitioners, administrators, policy makers and other professionals will deliver and share their findings, thoughts, ideas, experiences, remedies and concerns on issues relating to traditional and religious values, self identity, inevitable social transformation and adaption, art and music and cultural sustainability and many others.

All these are equally important to the people of Asia while they continue to achieve economic and material progress.

Papers at the conference cover humanities and social sciences with that of applied sciences by tackling topics on creating future generations of youth who are skilled in technology but at the same time solidly foregrounded in their unique traditional values in order to become well-rounded citizens of Asia.

As Asians continue to make efforts to thrive in a competitive world, their cultural values which are essential in defining who they are need to be understood, cherished, valued, practiced and preserved while not forsaking what the modern world has to offer.
