Expert Profile


At present, Dr. Azuwan Musa is an assistant professor and the Head for Optometry Services and Training in the Department of Ophthalmology, Kulliyyah of Medicine, International Islamic University Malaysia. He is the lead optometrist for the Rehabilitative Ophthalmology and Vision Enhancement Unit that offers wide-ranging vision rehabilitation services including general low vision and neuro-rehabilitation like post-stroke vision loss, Braille literacy clinic and patient support group. Dr. Azuwan Musa completed low vision and school-age children course from the Hadley School for Professional Studies, Illinois, United States. Dr. Azuwan Musa had undergone specialist training on community eye health in LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India where he planned and managed eye care programme at a community level in preventing visual impairment and blindness. He has two-year clinical experience in the Sight Service and University Hospital of North Durham, UK as a low vision optometrist who is responsible in rehabilitating visually impaired people mainly due to stroke and traumatic brain injuries. He used the first, free rehabilitation app called Durham Reading and Exploration (DREX) training for the rehabilitation of partial visual loss like hemianopia, quadrantanopia and bitemporal visual deficits.
