CONVOCATION ATTIRE FOR GRADUANDS

The convocation attire that must be worn by all graduands during the convocation ceremony comprises three items:

  • Robe
  • Headgear
    • Mortar Board(Undergraduate, Master and Post Graduate Diploma)
    • Beefeater (Clinical Master and all PhD students)
    • Cream Coloured tudung/headcover (for female graduands only)
  • Hood

1.    ABOUT THE ROBE

a.    Types of Robe

 

i.       Bachelor's Degree – 1 Stripe

ii.      Master's Degree – 2 Stripes

iii.     Clinical Master and Ph.D – 3 Stripes

 

b. The Colours of the Hood (According To Kulliyyah)

        2.      DRESS CODE

All graduands must observe FULLY the following dress code and GRADUANDS WHO DO NOT COMPLY TO THE BELOW REQUIREMENTS WILL NOT BE ALOWED TO JOIN THE CEREMONY

 

             a. Shirts/Pants/Skirt/Head Cover

i.     Malaysian Male Graduates
Dark 'baju melayu' with 'songket sampin', or dark lounge suit.

 

ii. Non-Malaysian Male Graduates
Dark national dress is allowed, but this must be long sleeved and ankle-length. Dark lounge suits are also allowed.

iii. Malaysian Female Graduates
National dress or formal dress which covers the *aurah.

iv. Non-Malaysian Female Graduates
National dress or formal dress which covers the *aurah.

v. Cream coloured tudung/ headcover

Covering of 'Aurah' (including head and neck) applies to all females as it is part of IIUM Convocation Dress. All students must wear a cream coloured tudung/headcover during the convocation ceremony.

Female students with long hair are recommended to tie up their hair lower down the neck to avoid difficulties in wearing the mortar board.

                  b. Shoes

i. Male Graduands : Leather shoes (black/dark)

     ii. Female Graduands: Black or dark brown shoes

 

                  c. Items Not Allowed during the convocation ceremony
                       

         Wearing of the following items are not allowed:               

                                 i. 'Purdah'

                                 ii. Turbans

                                iii. Skirts with slits

                                iv. Sportwear and Sandals

                                 v. Striking Coloured Shoes

                                vi. High Heels and Slippery Shoes

 

The committee has the right to refuse the students found violating the above rules from joining the convocation ceremony.

 

          3. COLLECTION AND RETURNING OF CONVOCATION ATTIRE

a.  Process of collection
 
 i.        Before the collection date, graduands fill up the Online Tracer Study Survey (Both MOHE and IIUM survey forms) and Robe Collection Form for size selection as per Item 1(c) above.
 
 ii.        On the collection date, graduans submit the printed slips for the 2 Online Tracer Study Survey and Robe Collection Form to the Robe Counter.
 
iii.        Graduands will be given a queue number (ONLY if forms in Item (3.a.ii) above are submitted).
 
iv.        Graduands wait for their number to be called.
 
v. Graduands collect the Robe, Invitation Card and Multimedia Card at Robe Counter.

 Notes :

 i.   Robes would like only given to those who come with :
·         Printed Robe Collection Form
·         MOHE Tracer Slip
·         IIUM Tracer Slip
 
 ii.   The last day to collect the convocation attire is 10th October 2014 (Friday). Any collection after the deadline will not be entertained.
 
 iii.  Collection of convocation attire must be done by the graduands themselves for the correct size.
 
 iv.  If convocation attire cannot be collected or returned personally, please fill in the Authorization Form and give it to your authorized representative.
 
 v.  Graduands are not allowed to alter the robes. Graduands will be charged the purchase price for any damage or loss (Please refer to No. 4).  3. Returning of Convocation Attire

 

c. Returning of Convocation Attire

All graduands are required to return the convocation attire together with the "Slip-Returning of Convocation Attire" as follows :

 Notes :

i.         A fine of RM10.00 per day will be charged to graduands who return the convocation attire after 19th October 2014 (Sunday)
 
ii.        Please do not hand-wash convocation attire. They should be dry-cleaned only.
 
iii.       The University has the right to claim compensation at the cost as per the price for purchase if the convocation atire is damaged or lost.
 
iv.       The "Slip-Returning of Convocation Attire" will be stamped at the Robe Room counter so that the graduand could use it as a proof that the attire had been returned when collecting their scroll.

 

    4.  PURCHASING OF CONVOCATION ATTIRE

Graduands who are interested may purchase the whole set or specific items of the convocation attire.

Payment can be made as follows:

The relevant cost (RM) in the form of Postal Order/Banker's Cheque in the name of FINANCE DIVISION, IIUM. (Personal cheques will not be accepted).

The Postal Order/Banker's Change are to be submitted at the robe collection counter.
