Just like any other year, Dental Students Society (DENSS) held a welcoming event for the new undergraduate intake of 2017. It has been a joyful tradition to commemorate the students’ first visit to Kulliyyah of Dentistry with their family members by having a tour to have a sneak peak at the facilities provided here. The visitors were given the privilege to enter the auditorium, polyclinic, simulation laboratory, fabrication laboratory, and lecture halls. The auditorium is usually accessible to public whenever there are talks and seminars being held, otherwise used as examination hall. Often the polyclinic area is restricted only to patients attending dental treatment. It is the highlight spot for the visitors of KOD Open Day as the parents can see up close the clinical setting which their child would spend 3 long clinical years. The polyclinic consists of 150 dental chairs each equipped with computer set integrated with centralized X-ray machines. However, the radiograph area which places dental X-ray, CBCT and OPG machines are inaccessible to the public for safety purposes. The simulation lab houses around 70 dental units with dummies for the preclinical students to prepare themselves before they start practicing on real patients whereas the fabrication lab houses the work stations for students to construct and process dental prostheses.
The tour is definitely capable of injecting new spirit of learning into the heart of students. It convinces the parents that the children are being trained in a conducive learning environment alongside first-class lecturers and staffs. Kulliyyah of Dentistry IIUM will strive to produce knowledgeable and skillful dental surgeons who will serve the people with integrity and sincerity. With open arms and brightest smiles, KOD family welcome the 11th batch!!
