Expert Profile


Dr. Hashima E Nasreen has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) since December 26, 2013. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the James P. Grant School of Public Health, BRAC Institute of Global Health, BRAC University in Bangladesh. Currently, she is the Advisor for the project Go4Health (Asian Hub) aiming to set goals and governance of post MDG 2015, in collaboration with 13 Universities of different countries, funded by the European Commission. She is a medical doctor (MBBS), and received Masters in Public Health (MPH) from Umea University, Sweden in 2001 and a Ph.D in Medical Science and Public Health from Karolinska Institute, Sweden in 2011.
Dr. Hashima has 20 years of research experience in public health and epidemiology since 1994 at the Research and Evaluation Division, BRAC, Bangladesh. She has received professional training on sexuality and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS in reproductive health settings, health economics from India; East-West University, Hawaii, USA; and Umea University, Sweden. She acted as an advisor with UNFPA to evaluate the contribution of UNFPA and IPPF in addressing youths' reproductive health needs and rights since ICPD in Bangladesh, and with CARE-Bangladesh to review HIV/AIDS and commercial sex workers in Bangladesh. She was an international consultant in mapping the policy process and programmatic landscape of HIV in Bangladesh with Commonwealth Secretariat, London, in 2007. She is experienced in managing collaborative research projects with ICDDR,B and Plan International (Bangladesh), ICRW and CEDPA (USA), Columbia University (USA), University of Aberdeen (Scotland), and Karolinska Institute (Sweden).
Dr. Hashima was awarded a number of scholarships for doctoral studies, Master programme, and relevant post-graduation training. She is experienced in managing grants of research projects. She has a number of publications in reputed peer-reviewed international journals and has presented research papers in international conferences and workshops in different countries. She is the reviewer of a number of international public health and psychiatric journals.
