Master of Science in Islamic Banking and Finance (MIBF)

Master of Science in Islamic Banking and Finance (MIBF) is aimed at producing personnel who are well-versed in the principles and concepts of Islamic banking and finance through providing relevant education and training for practitioners in banking and finance industry to be conversant with all aspects of the operation of Islamic banking. The course is available on part time or full time basis.

Objectives

  1. To provide opportunity for graduate or individual with relevant working experience to acquire knowledge and training for a career in Islamic banking and finance.
  2. To train executives desiring specialization in Islamic banking and finance in order to assist in expanding the banking and finance industry.
  3. To provide opportunity for fresh graduates in related disciplines to pursue Master of Science in Islamic banking and finance in order to prepare them to enter the job market in Islamic banking and finance.

Learning Outcome
Upon completion, students would be able to understand the principles, rules and practices of Islamic financial institutions. Moreover, students would be able to relate theories of Islamic banking and finance to economics, finance, accounting, management, law, Shari’ah,information technology and other related disciplines.


Programme Structure
A candidate should complete 10 courses of 3 credit hours each, for a total equivalent to 30 credit hours plus

        (a) A dissertation that is equivalent to 12 credit hours or
        (b) 6 credit hours of coursework and a research paper that are equivalent to 12 credit hours.

Students must attend 5 core courses and 5 other courses from the listed number of elective courses. Total credit hours upon graduation will be 42 credit hours.

  • Good bachelor degree or equivalent professional qualification; and
  • Proficient in English Language (IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550) or the IIUM administered English Placement Test (EPT)
