Department of Arabic Language and Literature

The Department of Arabic Language and Literature offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that deal with various aspects of the Arabic language, linguistics and literature. As Arabic is the language of the Qur’an, the programmes offered by the Department are imbued with Islamic values and are closely linked with the intellectual tradition of the Revealed Knowledge discipline.

Department of Communication

The Department of Communication offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that deal with the nature of human communication through various media at the individual and societal levels. In these programmes, the conventional knowledge of the discipline is studied from the Islamic perspective in the spirit of Islamization of human knowledge.

Department of English Language and Literature

The Department of English Language & Literature offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that deal with various aspects of the English language, linguistics and literature. Under the umbrella of the Kulliyyah, the programmes offered by the Department are imbued with Islamic values and viewpoints.

Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh

The Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh was established in 1998 as an independent academic unit within the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences. The programmes offered by the Department fulfills the ultimate goal of the Kulliyyah to become  a leading centre for integration of revealed values with human knowledge. They introduce students to the study of Islamic jurisprudence and Islamic legal theory. The wide range of courses offered by the Department not only involves mere textual reading and memorization of the juristic legacy but also an analysis of various views and arguments, an evaluation of proof-values underlining each juristic pronouncement, an appreciation of divergent positions, and most importantly contextualization of juristic discourses with the view of providing solutions to juristic needs of Muslims and global world. These skills equip the students with juridical acumen to serve effectively as competent graduates of Islamic jurisprudence and enable them to be life-long learners and thoughtful citizens of increasingly globalized world. It materializes the above via its Bachelor and Post-graduate Programmes.

Department of General Studies

The Department of General Studies functions as a service department offering Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage courses to all University students. In addition, it also offers some fundamental and elective courses to students of KIRKHS.

Department of History and Civilization

The Department of History & Civilization offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that deal with  various fields of history and civilization, including ancient civilizations, Muslim history and civilization, Southeast Asian history, Western history and civilization, and the history of reform movements (Islah and Tajdid) in the Muslim world.

Department of Political Science

The Department of Political Science offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that focus on the processes and institutions of societal decision making. In these programmes, the conventional knowledge of the discipline is studied from the Islamic perspective in the spirit of Islamization of human knowledge.

Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology was established in 1990 along with a number of other human science departments in the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (IRKHS). It offers a four-year full-time program of studies leading to the Bachelor of Human Sciences with Honours in Psychology, and postgraduate degrees at the Master and Ph.D. levels.
The Department of Psychology undertakes various activities such as teaching, research, continuing education, consultancies and psychological services.   Currently, the department offers the Master’s program, which includes both coursework and thesis components in two areas of specialization; Clinical and Counselling Psychology and  Industrial and Organisational Psychology. The PhD program, on the other hand, can be taken via dissertation only.  Our academic members are also teaching Master programme in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at the Centre for Human Development and Applied Social Sciences (CERDAS).
The Department adheres to the general vision and mission of the University and it aims to provide students with knowledge, interpersonal skills and Islamic values. A unique feature to be found in all the programs is the Islamization of knowledge.

Department of Qur’an and Sunnah

The Department of Qur’an and Sunnah offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that focus on the study of the Divine Revelation in its two forms, the Qur’an and the Sunnah, as sources of knowledge and guidance for Man in his life.

Department of Sociology and Anthropology

The Department of Sociology & Anthropology offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that focus on the study of society and its institutions. Under the umbrella of the Kulliyyah, the conventional knowledge of the discipline is studied from the Islamic perspective in the spirit of Islamization of human knowledge.

Department of Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion

The Department of Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion was established in 1997 along with other Islamic Revealed Knowledge departments in the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (IRKHS). It promotes the Islamic sciences relevant to contemporary disciplines of study. It develops an Islamically – based integrated and holistic approach to education and career. Its niche area is “comparative approach in the study of Islamic Heritage, Thought, and Other Religions on the basis of Usul al-Din.  It offers a four-year full-time program of studies leading to the Bachelor of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage with Honours in Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion, and postgraduate degrees at the Master and PhD levels in Islamic Thought and comparative Religion.
The Department adheres to the philosophy, vision, mission and objectives of the University, and it aims to provide students with knowledge and Islamic values. A unique feature to be found in all the programs of the Department is the “Relevantization of Islamic Heritage” to contemporary realities.
