M.HSc. in English Literary Studies

The Master of Human Science in English Literary Studies programme provides students with knowledge of literary skills to conduct research and produce academic reports in the field. Apart from mastery of the English Literature, students can understand how English is used in various literary works by famous writers from all over the world, including Malaysia. As English Language Literature is fast becoming an important area of English Language teaching in Malaysia, students can apply it specifically in the domains of teaching and publication.

The programme basically requires two years of full time study or four years on a part time basis. Students in this programme are engaged in in-depth study of English literature and in research and fieldwork in the area of teaching English as a second language.

Entry Requirements

  1. A relevant Bachelor’s degree with good grade from IIUM or any other accredited institutions of higher learning, or other certificates that are recognized as equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional qualifications and experience that are recognized by the Senate of the University.
  2. Applicants are required to obtain the following English proficiency level:

 Paper based: 600

 IELTS: Band 7

Note: Students are required to provide evidence of English proficiency by submitting their proficiency certificates before the beginning of the programme. If they fail to do so, they will be required to sit for the IIUM-administered English Placement Test (EPT).
