Introduction
This programme was first offered in 1997 but an academic review was conducted in 2011 and the reviewed version was presented to the Department of Higher Education, MOHE in the same year. In July 2012, the Department of Higher Education approved the reviewed programme. In March 2015, the Malaysian Qualifications Agency produced a document called Standards for Masters and Doctoral Degrees and it was found that the current programme needs a minor revision to comply with some of the requirements set out in the document.

Doctor of Philosophy of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage in Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh

Programme Educational Objectives
Within a few years upon successfully completing the program, our graduates will be practitioners in Islamic Jurisprudence who:

1. Analyse and evaluate major issues and practices using the knowledge, understanding and practical skills of Islamic principles. 

2. Contribute responsibly to society ethically and professionally in cognizance with the current knowledge. 

3. Lead Islamic initiative in institutions and industries locally and globally with effective communication skills. 

4. Manage religion-related activities and promote entrepreneurial spirits.

 

Programme Learning Outcomes  

At the end of the programme, students are able to:

1. Knowledge: Demonstrate familiarity with established knowledge in the field of Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh and awareness of current development therein. 

2. Practical Skills: Use relevant skills learned in Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh for professional and personal development.

3. Social Skills and Responsibilities: Cooperate with others and apply knowledge in a socially responsible manner for the progress of the nation and the ummah.

4. Values: Demonstrate commitment to ethics, autonomy, and professionalism in the workplace and everyday life.

5. Communication, Leadership and Team Skills: Communicate with people from a diverse range of backgrounds with empathy, showing leadership qualities.

6. Problem Solving and Scientific Skills:  Analyse issues and demonstrate skilfulness in planning, executing and evaluating strategies and action plans. 

7. Information Management and Lifelong Learning Skills: Use the necessary learning skills in information management and apply effective strategies for lifelong self-improvement.

8. Managerial and Entrepreneurial Skills:  Apply basic managerial and entrepreneurial skills in relevant fields.

9.   Integration: Relate Islamic teachings to contemporary realities.
