1. Unit for Translation, Editing, Critical Annotation of Manuscripts in ISTAC
The Research Unit at ISTAC, IIUM translates, edit and publishes significant works written by relevant prominent scholars of the past and present from all over the world into identified languages. The unit produces high quality works on Islam that serve to separates myth from reality, fact from fiction, and the important from the mundane. Its main focus is the translation, edition, critical annotation and publication gleaned from selection from over 2547 manuscripts in the ISTAC Library.
The project is chaired by the internationally renowned scholar, Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar and coordinated by Professor Dr. Sayyid Ajmal Al-Aidrus. Amongst its distinguished members include Professor Dr. Ibrahim Zein who is presently the Dean of ISTAC.
2. Unit for the Study of Islam, Modernity, Human Rights and Minorities.
The activities of this Unit will be primarily focused on carrying out in-depth research into the many and intricate issues concerning Islam, modernity, human rights and minorities around the globe. Special seminars and conferences may be organized from time to time. Results of the envisaged quality studies thus carried out will be published as monographs or in other suitables forms.
The unit is chaired by Professor Muddathir Abdel-Rahim an internationally recognized authority in political science and Islamic studies who has recently been designated a Very Distinguished Academic Fellow at ISTAC. It is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Baharuddin Ahmad, the Deputy Dean of ISTAC. Amongst its distinguished members are the Dean of ISTAC, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim M. Zein, Prof. Dr. Abdullahil Ahsan, KIRKHS, Dr. Wahabuddin Ra'ees Sahibuddin, Head of Dept of Political Science, KIRKHS and Dr. El-Fatih Abdullahi Abdelsalam, KIRKHS of IIUM.
