FIRST ISTAC INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ISLAMIC SCIENCE AND THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD

    “Islamic Science in Contemporary Education”

    BACKGROUND

ISTAC is organizing its “First ISTAC International Conference on Islamic Science and the Contemporary World” scheduled to be held from 9th until 10th January 2008 (Wednesday – Thursday) at ISTAC, Damansara Campus. Following the 2006 International Conference on Ibn Khaldun, this conference on Islamic Science is part of an ongoing series of ISTAC international conferences on past leading thinkers, contributors and general thoughts on Islamic civilization with the view of making them better known and appreciated in the contemporary world.

The first event in this series was an international conference on al-Ghazali in 2002 and the second was Ibn Khaldun in November, 2006. In light of its theme on "Islamic Science in Contemporary Education", the Conference intends to highlight sub-areas such as:

    (i) The Formation of Scientific Mind in Classical Islamic Civilization
(ii) The Impact of Modern Western Science and Technology in the Muslim World
(iii) Towards Making Islamic Scientific Worldview Relevant to Contemporary Science Education.
Speakers are invited from all over the world, including leading philosophers of science from local institutions, i.e. IPTS and IPTA, government agencies, ministries, embassies and as well as international institutions/universities. At least 18 speakers are expected to deliver presentations throughout the conference.
