In ushering the spirit of new year, Dr Abdul Rahman, Director of ITD was invited to convey his valuable messages and words of wisdom to all ITD employees on the 13th January at the Multipurpose Hall of FSSD. The program that lasted for an hour began with the recital of du’a followed by speech delivered by the Director.

The speech started with the ITD list of achievement in 2010, from the in-house development projects to big projects which involved high costs. Dr Abdul Rahman expressed his utmost gratitude and appreciation towards the contributions made by all ITD employees to make every project such a huge success.

Next, Dr Abdul Rahman urged all ITD employees to work harder and willing to guide and assist each other regarding all issues and problems related to work. He also said that ITD employees should mingle more and know their colleagues well to embrace the sense of belonging among them. This is crucial to create a warm and friendly working environment so that everyone will be highly motivated to work efficiently.

Other than that, Dr Abdul Rahman also pressed that the selection of 2011 projects must be done based on the benefits that will be gained by the university. Each project must follow the concept of ‘Project Management Plan’ so that it is well organized and can be referred by all parties and users. University of Singapore on the other hand has been chosen as a benchmark for ITD because of its advancement in IT system.

Eventually, the program ended with question-and-answer session and lunch.

Officers from Information Technology Division and Centre for Postgraduate Studies, IIUM coordinated a working visit to the University Malaya on the 9th November 2010. The objective of the visit was to share knowledge and experiences in the following services implemented in University Malaya:

1)   Help Desk  System

2)   System(s) that handles Admission for Postgraduate Intake.

3)  Network Operations Centre

 4)   UM e-survey

The discussion started of with the sharing of the University Malaya ICT Framework  by the Director of Bahagian Teknologi Maklumat , UM. This is then followed by a demonstration of the UM Helpdesk System which is for the centralized management of the operational activities.

The next agenda was the demonstration and discussion on UM e-application and admission process flow. The UM's e-application pilot project was centered at 2 chosen faculties. These faculties were able to process application online and recommend for admission online from the faculty. Faculty staff can approve or not approve for recommendation, then relevant reports can be generated to assist meeting of admission.

Lastly, the discussion centered on the UM e-Survey. Even though, the software was initially purchased, UM owns and manage the e-Survey system themselves. The survey provides better functionality and maintenance. The possibility of IIUM adopting the system may be discussed in future meetings.

The working visit ended with a tour to the University Malaya Data Centre and the Network Operations Centre. In summary, systems or improvements of process that was shared by the Pusat Komputer, University Malaya can be adopted in IIUM.
