The IIUM Campus Wide Wireless was implemented in 2 phases. IT department (ITD) was responsible for the project implementation and management.
PHASE 1
Phase 1 of the IIUM Campus Wide Wireless project was rolled out in February 2008, and officially launched in May 2008. It would cover the entire academic area at Gombak Campus, Indera Mahkota Campus and Jln Hospital Campus which includes; administrative office areas, class rooms, meeting rooms, conference rooms, cafeteria etc. 765 APs has been installed at those campuses. The distribution are as follows :
590 APs Gombak Campus and 20 remote APs
120 APs Indera Mahkota Campus
35 APs Jalan Hopital Campus
765 installed point will be used to provide the wireless signal coverage. Additional AP will be added after the system already in place in order to ensure better coverage and capacity.
In this phase, a wireless network infrastructure was constructed, including wireless controller and PoE switches installations, DHCP, Radius and LDAP deployment, WPA configuration and Wireless UAT.

PHASE 2
Phase 2 of the IIUM Campus Wide Wireless project was be rolled out in Q4 2009. This phase involved deployment of the outdoor MESH wireless access points at student residential area at all campuses. The area includes Gombak, Kuantan, PJ, ISTAC and Nilai Campus. It is estimated that hundreds of additional access points would be installed in order to improve the WiFi coverage.
