Department of Quantitative Studies


OVERVIEW

Department of Quantitative Studies (DQS) is one of the department under arts program. Previously DQS is known as Department of Economics and Management Sciences (DENMS). The department offers only one program which is Economics and Management Sciences program. The program will allow the students to further their studies into various first degree programs offered at the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS). The duration of the program is one year, which consists of two normal semesters and one short semester.   DQS offers core courses to the Economics program students and elective courses to other arts programs. The department office is situated at Level 2, Kulliyyah of Dentistry, IIUM Kuantan.

Currently, there are 20 staff in the department which consists of 19 academic and 1 administrative staff. The academic staff are from various fields such as accounting, mathematics, statistics, economics and business studies. Although they are specialised in their subject field but many of them are able to teach multi courses under the department. Apart from teaching, some of the staff are actively involved in the various students’ activities through becoming advisors to the academic students’ society, fellows and principal of the Mahallah.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR GRADUATION FOR ECONOMICS & MANAGEMENT SCIENCES PROGRAMME:

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Obtain an overall Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 and above from CFS.

PROGRAMME REQUIREMENTS

A minimum Grade of C in the following courses:

           QSA0224 – Mathematics 2

           QSA0234 – Economics

           QSA0244 – Statistics

           QSA0254 – Accounting 1

           QSA0264 – Accounting 2

           QSA0274 – Introduction to Business

  • Centre Required Courses:

           HSA0344 – Thinking Skills

           HSA0364 – Writing Skills

  • University Required Courses:

           RKA0413 – Islam & Other Religion

           RKA0433 – Islamic Revealed Knowledge

           ICT0513 – Application of ICT

  • English Language*:

           LEM0308 – English Level 3

           LEM0408 – English Level 4

           LEM0508 – English Level 5

           LEM0608 – English Level 6

  • Arabic Language**:

           LQM0106 – Quranic Language 1

           LQM0206 – Quranic Language 2

           LQM0348 – Quranic Language 3 & 4

           LQM0508 – Quranic Language 5

           LQM0608 – Quranic Language 6


*Subject to the English Placement Test. When Kulliyyah Language Requirement is met (EPT Writing, Reading, Speaking Band 5.5 and Overall Band 6), students are exempted from English Language Proficiency Courses.

**Subject to the Arabic Placement Test.

Economics students are required to complete all the core courses listed above, together with the university required courses and the centre required courses. In addition, students are also required to fulfil their language requirement before graduating from the centre. The total credit for the program (exclude languages) is 44.

In addition, DQS also offer QSA0294 Business Studies course to other arts programs.

Each of the courses above worth 4 credits and both are under the category of Centre Required Courses.
