Prof. Dr. Mohammed Fauzi Abdul Rani

السلام عليكم ورحمة اللّه وبركاتة

Welcome to the Kulliyyah of Medicine’s website. We are the fifth public medical school in the country and located in Kuantan, the capital of the largest state in peninsular Malaysia. We are fully financed by the Malaysian government, but the university is registered as a company to allow for unfettered use of English as the medium of communication. This is done to facilitate our status as an international learning institution, admitting Malaysians as well as non-Malaysians.

Our kulliyyah is part of a unique university, as it is indeed the most international higher institution in Malaysia by students’ composition, with admissions from more than 95 countries. Another unique feature of the university is that we are deeply rooted in the paradigm of Tawheed.

The medical course here is a blend of traditional and integrated systems, with both horizontal integration (between all body systems) to consolidate basic medical understanding, and vertical integration (between clinical and pre-clinical studies) to expose the students to relevant aspects of clinical medicine at an earlier stage.

We have about 115 highly qualified, full-time staff and about 50 part-time staff for an annual intake of about 140 students. There is a unique strand in all of them in that they are the ambassadors of the university to Islamize, Integrate and Internationalize to achieve Comprehensive Excellence or IIICE. The university’s motto succinctly summarizes this as “a garden of knowledge and virtue."

The training to become a doctor is long and arduous, and students must achieve the minimum standard to function effectively as a doctor. In addition to that, they must be able to self-learn throughout their career, and they must also be of the highest moral character. I am proud to say that in IIUM you will definitely get the right blend of training to mould you to become a good, ethical and competent doctor.

Research and training in the kulliyyah is very active. We have an advanced human patient stimulation laboratory, the first of its kind in the country, and our Orthopaedics Lab is the only lab to become a Bionexus partner. Both fundamental and applied research are growing, and expansion is also being seen in specialized clinical services. In our short existence, we have had 2 clinical patents, as we contribute to IIUM in preparing to become a research university. These are true reflections of our capability and potential, and there is more to come.

If you think you have got what it takes to study here, do apply and I am sure that you will have a fantastic and rewarding time.

May Allah swt helps all of us in this noble endeavour.

والسلام
