Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems certification audits which had been successfully conducted in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Kulliyyah of Medicine will be celebrated in a certificates presentation ceremony at the Kulliyyah of Medicine on 21 May 2012. The Department achieved the certification of compliance in OHSAS 18001: 2007 and MS 1722: Part 1: 2005 of the Malaysian Standards in occupational safety and health management systems.

The OHSAS 18001 certificate is the world's foremost and internationally recognized standard of assessment specification for occupational health and safety management systems. The standards focuses on occupational health and safety with the aim of enhancing the highest standards already in place including minimizing risks to employees at the workplace and improving the existing occupational health and safety management systems.

The Kulliyyah is the first medical school in Malaysia to comply with the standards.
