The diversity of cultures existing on the various campuses of IIUM provide for the natural existence of an interesting and exuberant campus community made up of an international mix of staff and students. Several activities that are being created and organised by students, make campus life more entertaining and vibrant.
One of the ways to foster solidarity amongst students from different countries is the UMMATIC WEEK, the much awaited event that comes once a year. It is a week that fosters
SOLIDARITY, UNITY, HARMONY and FRIENDSHIP.
The theme of the Ummatic Week 2012 is “Hand in Hand, We Unite the Ummah”. The event usually takes place in the main hall of the CAC located in the heart of the campus.
Extensive preparations take place prior to the event. Each beautifully decorated booth represents a country.
With over 40 countries showcasing their culture, IIUM comes alive with colourful festivity.
The Ummatic week officially commenced with the OPENING CEREMONY, officiated by none other than our Honorable Rector, Professor Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin.
In addition to the booths, throughout the week, students put on exuberant performances representing their countries, entertaining the respective audiences.
As Ummatic week proceeds to a close, winners are announced at the Closing ceremony, presided by the Honourable Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, Majlis Member of IIUM.
The winners of the booths are evaluated based on several factors including the cleanliness of the booths, the history showcased in the booth, the crowd the booth attracts, as well as punctuality of those manning the booths.
The winners of the performancs were evaluated based on novelty, preciseness and entertaining values as well as originality.
In addition to booths and performances, the recently held Ummatic week saw other activities being held as well:
- Library exhibition
- Ummatic Feast – distributing food from different countries
- Ummatic Talk – titled “from Morocco to Kuala Lumpur”
- Ummatic Run – with more than 100 participants
Once again, Ummatic week continues to uphold the very own mission and vision of IIUM:
