Programme Description
At this moment, the department is involved in basic and applied medical science research whereby the findings are incorporated into the curriculum. This objective aims towards getting the students to foster a reseach culture that is essential for the development of the nation.
Subjects taugh will cover the pre-clinical sciences such as Physiology, Anatomy, Microbiology, Pathology etc. that form a solid foundation for the final year major concentration. A research project and written thesis is required to be completed in the final year. Students have also to fulfill a 9 week internship/posting as part of their industrial training.
During the final year. the student is also required to complete 16 (CH) of concentration courses from any one of the following five specialisation areas with 16 (CH) each
Environmental Health
Industrial Health
Clinical and Pharmaceutical Research
In the near future, the departments envisages to offer three additional concentrations namely;
Tele health
Laboratory management Technology
The degree programme is the IIUM's response to calls for knowledgeable and skilled professionals in both the health and medical sectors. It aims to produce highly trained and creative biomedical scientist to fill the growing needs of society.
Programme Structure
Level of Studies:
Bachelor of Biomedical Science [BBiomedSc(Hons)]
Duration: 4 years
A student must successfully complete 125 or 127 Credit Hours (CH) of course work, consisting of the requirements of the university, Kulliyyah and department.
Entry Requirements

A pass at the GCE level with credits in
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Physics
Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the government of Malaysia and approved by the Senate of the University.
