LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST 

Students who accept the offer of admission to IIUM are required to sit for the English Proficiency Test (EPT) and Arabic Proficiency Test (APT) organised by the University. The medium of instruction in all programmes at IIUM is either English or Arabic. All students must achieve a minimum level of language proficiency to qualify them to enter the first year of study in their programmes. The language proficiency tests and registration will take place in Gombak Campus.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY TEST (EPT)

Exemption may be given to students who have graduated from the following English-speaking countries: UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA. (Certificates from other than these 5 countries are not accepted).

For students who have IELTS, TOEFL OR MUET qualifications, exemption may be given if fulfilled the requirements as below;

·       MUET (Malaysia University English Test) is required for Malaysian candidates who apply for admission to IIUM undergraduate programmes using Malaysian qualifications.  It is not used to proceed to the programmes offered to the candidates. Therefore, all new students are required to take the EPT in the first week of the enrolment if they do not meet the minimum score as the above.

·       Other accepted certificates are as follows:

ü  Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE):Minimum Grade C 

ü  Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): Minimum Grade B

ü  English Language GCSE, IGCSE or O-Level : English as First Language- Grade C

§  English as Second Language - Grade B

ü  International Baccalaureate Standard Level (SL & HL): Score of 5 in English

ü  European Baccalaureate: Score of 70% in English

ü  IDEXCEL PTE - Scores of 50 and above

ARABIC PROFICIENCY TEST (APT)

·       An exemption may be given to students who fulfill one of these criteria:

Graduated from Arab countries that use Arabic as a single medium of instruction (Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen). (Certificates from other than these 19 countries are not accepted)
