DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY

Department of Psychiatry, Kulliyyah of Medicine has been established together with the Kulliyyah of Medicine in 1997 to cater the needs of learning and teaching of medicine for medical undergraduates in the field of psychiatry. The Department of Psychiatry offered various clinical services related to psychiatry and mental health including child and adolescent, general psychiatry, psychogeriatic, behavioral science, addiction, liaison, community and rehabilitation psychiatry.

Department of Psychiatry offers program for undergraduate and postgraduate. The Psychiatry posting for undergraduate programme is run in Year 4 and Year 5 of the medical programme. Two weeks Introductory to Psychiatry Posting was given during their last posting in Year 4.  During Year 5, the student will have 8 weeks posting in psychiatry in which they will have the clinical exposure in managing patient with psychiatric problems. They need to undergo clinical psychiatry supervision in ward and clinic, series of lectures, seminars, home visit, rehabilitation session with patient and other teaching and learning activities.

Postgraduate Programme Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) IIUM has been offered since December 2017. The aim of the programme is to produce specialist in psychiatry which is still inadequate to cater the mental health need for the country. Currently, there has been 9 students enroll in the programme.
