Expert Profile
Professor Dr Puteri Nemie Jahn Kassim is a Professor at the Civil Law Department, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, IIUM. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Southampton, England and her Master's and Ph.D in Law from the IIUM. She completed an Academic Fellowship at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2006. Since obtaining her Ph.D in the area on Medical Negligence, she has written extensively in local and international journals in the areas relating to Medical and Healthcare Law and Ethics. Her recent journal articles include an article published by Springer in Journal of Religion and Health entitled the "Religious, Ethical and Legal Considerations in End of Life Issues: Fundamental Requisites for Medical Decision-Making".
She has also authored several books which include Nursing Law and Ethics (2012), Law and Ethics Relating to the Medical Profession (2007), published by International Law Book Services and Cases and Commentary on Medical Negligence in Malaysia (2009) published by Sweet & Maxwell Asia. She has been appointed by the Malaysian Ministry of Health as a member of a national committee for drafting the new Organ Transplant Act for Malaysia and an international editorial board member for a Scopus journal Medicine and Law by the World Association on Medical Law (WAML).
She has procured many national research grants and an international grant from Sumitomo Foundation Japan, to study the Japanese system for compensating Cerebral Palsy Cases. Her passion for research had led her to win two outstanding research awards at Kulliyyah level in 2007 and 2009. Her administrative posts include Research Coordinator and Head of Civil Law Department held at the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws.
