Expert Profile
Kabuye Uthman Sulaiman is an Associate Professor with over 15 years of research and teaching at the Department of Fundamental and Inter-Disciplinary Studies, AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He has held several positions at IIUM, such as academic advisor, deputy director of IIUM mosques, coordinator of knowledge and civilization in Islam, chairperson of both curriculum review and examinations and assessments at the department of fundamental and interdisciplinary studies, and editor-in-chief of Al-Risalah Journal of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Kabuye is also active in public outreach. He is one of the advisors to Persatuan al-Hunafa’ (Muslim Education and Welfare Centre), a non-profit and non-political organization dedicated to the promotion of greater understanding and appreciation of the innate beauty and universality of Islamic philosophy, principles, and practice, where he teaches Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) and ‘Aqidah (Islamic Theology) to the general public every Sunday. He is also a guest speaker at Persatuan Darul Fitrah Malaysia (Darul Fitrah Association of Malaysia). He holds a PhD in Islamic Thought from IIUM. He has published numerous articles in International Refereed Journals and chapters in books on civilization, epistemology, worldview, and contemporary issues in Islam. He is the author of Distributive Justice: A Comparative Study of Sayyid Qutb, Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, John Rawls and Robert Nozick, and editor of Knowledge and Civilization in Islam. He is frequently invited to speak at conferences, workshops, and other events. He has also appeared as a guest on IIUM TV and Bernama TV live. Before joining IIUM as an academic staff, Dr. Kabuye served as a part-time translator at Institut Terjemahan Malaysia (National Institute of Translation Malaysia) for ten years. In recognition of his services as one of the translators at the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) 2003 Summit, Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Kabuye was awarded a certificate of appreciation by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahadhir Mohamad. Dr. Kabuye's main research areas are Islamic worldview, Islamic epistemology, Islamic civilization, and contemporary issues.
