Expert Profile
Zuraini Denan is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design. She is a senior lecturer who has been working in the department since 1998. She received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Texas Tech University, Texas, USA and Master of Architecture degree (MArch) from University Technology Malaysia, Skudai, Johor. Her Ph.D is from Cardiff University where she researched on the topic of Visual Comfort (Window and Lighting ) under Daylight of Office Buildings in Hot Humid Country.
Administratively, she has held several administrative posts at both department and faculty level: Head of Department (2005-2007 and 2010-2011), Deputy Dean, Academic Affairs (2007) and Deputy Dean, Student Affairs (2008). She was a coordinator for Heritage Studies (Measured Drawing) course for more than five years. During that time she developed a Heritage Studies Lab (mini gallery and archives). She was responsible for the planning and managing the course and supervising students in their heritage studies measured drawing activities on site. She has accompanied students for local and overseas heritage trips to Kuala Kangsar (Old Palaces of Perak Royal Town), Malaysia; Fatehpur Sikri (A Munghal Palace Complex), Agra, India, and Pariangan (A Minangkabau Village), West Sumatera, Indonesia.
She was involved in the review of the Malaysian Standard 2012 under the Department of Malaysian Standard (SIRIM 2011-2012), and a member of Passive Design Group of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science-Vice Chancellors' Council of National Universities in Malaysia (jsps-vcc, 2000-2009), and a member of Badan Warisan (Heritage NGO). She was involved in advising on daylighting strategies for hot arid region in a consultancy project for King Abdallah Grand Expansion of Al-Haram Mosque in the Holy City of Makkah under EAG Consulting Sdn Bhd.
