Expert Profile
Professor Dr. Muhammad Amanullah commenced his career as an Assistant Professor in 1998 in the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Since then, he has taught various courses on Usul al-Fiqh and Islamic Law in B. A., M. A. and Ph. D. levels. Later, he has developed an interest in Islamic finance and banking. He was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2011.
He has published more than twenty-five research papers and book chapters on different topics of Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, Islamic finance and Islamic professional ethics in a number of refereed journals and books. He has presented around forty research papers in a number of national and international conferences. He has been involved in a number of referred journals locally and internationally either as the chief-editor, or a member of the editorial board or an assessor of the articles. He has had the opportunity to evaluate more than 250 research papers in three different languages.
He has either supervised or examined around a hundred M. A. and Ph. D. theses in four different languages from a number of local and overseas universities, including IIUM. He has worked for the development and comprehensive evaluation of B. A., M. A. and Ph. D. curriculum of the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, IIUM. He has also evaluated M. A. (in Shari`ah) curriculum of two overseas universities. He served as the Head of the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, IIUM for three years. He has been serving as the chairman of the postgraduate committee of this department for last several years. Likewise, he served as the chairman of a number of departmental committees. Additionally, he served as the chairman of the Admission Committee of the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences for a number of years.
He has been serving as the chairman of the M. A. and Ph. D. theses committee of this Kulliyyah since 2014. He has completed eight short research projects under Research Management Centre of IIUM and organized an international conference as the chairman of its organizing committee. He has also participated actively in organizing a number of other national and international conferences organized by his department and served as a Shari`ah Committee member of an Islamic Bank at Kuala Lumpur for the last four years.
