Expert Profile


Syamsul bin Ahmad Arifin obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences (Hon) from University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharmacology)  from International Islamic University Malaysia. He started his career in 2002 as a Science Officer for Kulliyyah of Science and then moved to Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences. He joined Kulliyyah of Nursing, IIUM as a Lecturer upon completion of his MSc and was funded by the university and the Ministry of Higher Education to pursue his Ph.D. He obtained his Ph.D degree in Cell Biology from Queen Mary, University of London in 2016. Upon completion of his Ph.D he returned to his service as Assistant Professor at IIUM and was appointed as Deputy Dean (Student Affairs and Alumni). His current research is on molecular pharmacology of gastrointestinal hormone responsible for insulin secretion. His expertise lies in molecular pharmacology and cell signalling of gastrointestinal hormones secretion. Currently, his research interest is moving towards multidisciplinary fields including drug discovery, biobehavioural and psychology.
