Expert Profile
Dr. Mohammad Syaiful Bahari bin Abdull Rasad is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the International Islamic University Malaysia where he has been teaching since 2004. He graduated from University Science Malaysia (USM) with a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Hons) Biotechnology in 2002. In 2005, he received the MSc degree in Biotechnology from USM and he was awarded his Doctorate (Molecular and Cellular Biology) from the same university in 2010. His publications include "Cell and Tissue Culture Research and Technology from Islamic Perspective" (IIUM Press, 2013), several research articles including in Journal of Biotechnology, Carbohydrate Polymers, Journal of Biomaterials Applications, Applied Biochemistry Biotechnology and other specialized journals.
He also has presented his research in International Congress of Genetics (Berlin, Germany), Clinical Biochemists Annual Scientific Conference (Adelaide, Australia), International Biotechnology Symposium (Dalian, China) and other conferences. Dr. Syaiful was awarded the National Science Fellowship in 2004, Skim Latihan Akademik Bumiputera in 2006, Sanggar Sanjung Award (USM) in 2011 and Creation, Innovation, Technology & Research Exposition 2014, gold and silver medal award.
He was appointed as Coordinator of Islamization of Human Knowledge (2010-2012) and Head, Department of Biomedical Science (2013-2014) for Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences. He has also been appointed as a member of IIUM Biosafety Committee since 2011, Fellow Researcher in Cellular and Molecular research cluster at Integrated Center for Research Animal, Care and Use (ICRACU), Senior member of Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society and has been a member of numerous committees and associations.
He currently holds the position as Deputy Dean (Postgraduate and Research), Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences and a principal researcher for various research projects funded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and IIUM. He has been working in molecular biology and cellular research for the past 14 years and supervising a number of undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D research studies.
