Expert Profile
Normah Haron is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, teaching food concentration subjects, namely Food Biotechnology, Analytical Methods for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals, Chemistry and Biochemistry of Natural Products, Food, Nutrition and Health, Food Toxicology and Assessment and Fats and Oil Technology. She obtained her BSc (Hon) and MSc from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in Nutrition and Health Sciences.
Upon completion, she worked as a research officer in Family Health Development Division, Ministry of Health, Putrajaya for a year (from January 2008 till December 2008) and had taken part in the analysis of the Malaysian Adult Nutrition Survey (2003). She became an academic trainee at the Kulliyyah of Science and pursued her Ph.D in Food Science and Technology at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia from July 2009 till September 2013. Her current research interest is on bioactive compounds, such as phenolic acids and flavonoids in Malaysian traditional vegetables that focus on Pucuk Gajus, Bunga Telang and Banana flower plants.
