Asst Prof Dr Karimah Wahida binti Zulkifli is a seasoned Prosthodontics Specialist and academician with extensive experience in clinical dentistry, teaching, and academic leadership. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where she has played a central role in undergraduate and postgraduate dental education since 2008.
Dr Karimah obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2004. Upon graduation, she served with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) as a Dental Officer from June 2004 to November 2008, gaining valuable exposure in primary care dentistry and public health service. Her clinical experience and growing interest in prosthodontics dentistry led her to pursue a Master of Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) from Universiti Malaya (UM), which she completed in 2014.
In her role at IIUM, Dr Karimah has taught various core subjects within the prosthodontics discipline, including removable and fixed prosthodontics, dental materials, and preclinical dental technology. She has demonstrated excellence in both preclinical and clinical teaching and supervision, contributing to the academic development of students in Years 2 through 5. She has also been actively involved in the development of teaching modules and assessments aligned with outcome-based education.
Dr Karimah held the position of Laboratory Coordinator from 2019 to 2021, where she oversaw preclinical operations, material procurement, and safety compliance. Currently, she serves as Head of the Department of Prosthodontics (2023–2025), providing strategic leadership in curriculum design, academic planning, and staff development. Under her guidance, the department continues to grow in clinical service delivery and research engagement.
Her research interests include removable prosthodontics, digital workflows in dentistry, and dental material evaluation. She has been involved in several research grants, including IIUM’s Research Initiative Grant Scheme (RIGS) and the Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP). She has also been recognised for her impact in education and service with awards such as the IIUM Quality Award and the “I Do Care” Community Engagement Award.
In addition to academic and research duties, Dr Karimah is actively engaged in community dental programmes and contributes to national-level discussions in her specialty. She is a member of the Malaysian Association for Prosthodontics (MAP) and remains dedicated to the advancement of prosthodontic practice and education in Malaysia.
Her vision combines academic integrity, clinical excellence, and meaningful public service. She continues to mentor junior colleagues and contribute to IIUM’s mission of producing competent, ethical, and community-responsive dental professionals.
