Expert Profile
Dr. Yusoff Sharizal is currently an Assistant Professor of Anatomy in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Dr. Yusoff received his MBBS from IIUM in 2006 and obtained the Masters of Science (Clinical Anatomy) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2011. He was awarded a doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, in 2016. His doctoral thesis studied the effect of ageing on the spinal neurones controlling micturition. After joining IIUM as a lecturer, he is actively involved in teaching Clinical Anatomy, Functional Histology, Embryology, and Neuroanatomy to the undergraduate medical and postgraduate students. His research areas include localization of leptin and its receptors on various benign and cancer tissues, and on the effects of ageing on excitatory and inhibitory presynaptic axon terminals. Apart from that, his research interest also includes studying the effectiveness of anatomy teaching and learning in local universities.
