Expert Profile
Shafida Abd Hamid obtained her BSc (Hon) in Chemistry from the University of Manchester, UK in 1996. Upon graduation, she worked at Unichema (M) Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary company of Unilever (M) Sdn Bhd for one year. She then continued her PhD at the University of Cambridge in Organic Chemistry under the Academic Staff Training Scheme (ASTS) from USM. She was also appointed as a fellow for Cambridge Commonwealth Trust.
Her research interests include synthesis of organic compounds for various biological applications, for examples as neuraminidase inhibitors, compounds with anticancer and antimicrobial properties. She has contributed more than 70 research articles mainly in ISI and Scopus academic journals. She is presently a Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Kulliyyah of Science.
