Expert Profile


Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Maryam Zahaba is a passionate researcher and a registered Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessor recognised by the Department of Safety and Health (DOSH), Malaysia. She was a Deputy Chairman of Kulliyyah of Science Safety and Health Committee (KOSHSEC) from August 2020 – July 2024

She has collaborated with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), Labuan Shipyard Engineering (LSE) Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MHB), Noske Kaeser Sdn Bhd, MSET Sdn Bhd, Endeavour Energy Sdn Bhd and many more industries along her academic carrier. 

She has been invited to deliver and share her expertise in IAQ from various agencies such as Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Department of Safety and Health (DOSH), Radicare Sdn Bhd and Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia (IKIM). 

She has been involved in research mainly related to IAQ in the naval ships and building. Her focus now is to develop IAQ standard for naval ships in Malaysia. She is also interested to study more about the asbestos exposure among workers. 

She is a professional technologist in biotechnology and, she loves the idea of converting waste to wealth through biotechnology platforms. Her team developed filters from the agricultural waste to determine the exposure of nanomaterials in the workplaces. 

She is an active member of the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety & Health (MSOSH), Pahang Environment Safety and Health Association (PESHA) and a life member of Malaysian Biosafety and Biosecurity Association (MBBA). 

She is skilled in designing. She has been selected for two years in row as a designer for the annual magazine of her university faculty and currently a website coordinator for the Department of Chemistry, Kulliyyah of Science.
