Expert Profile


Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Norhidayu Kasim is an Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She currently serves as the Coordinator for the Professional Engineer Unit at the Department of Civil Engineering, Kulliyyah of Engineering, IIUM. Before joining academia, she gained extensive industry experience as a Civil Engineer at the Public Works Department of Malaysia (JKR) and as a Structural Design Engineer at a consulting engineering firm.

 She obtained her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (Hons.), a Master of Science in Structural Engineering, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Geotechnical Engineering, all from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her expertise lies in geotechnical engineering, particularly in slope stability, debris flow, and the use of innovative materials in road construction. Dr. Norhidayu has secured several major research grants, including funding from the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), as well as other research grants worth millions of ringgit. She has also served as a grant evaluator and reviewer. Her research has been widely published in numerous indexed journals and conference proceedings, focusing on various aspects of civil and geotechnical engineering. 

Beyond research, she actively conducts workshops and training sessions on Professional Engineering, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), Slope Engineering, and Academic Management. She has been invited as a keynote speaker at numerous conferences and seminars both locally and internationally.

As a Professional Engineer (Ir.) registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and a Professional Technologist (Ts.) recognized by the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), Dr. Norhidayu remains actively engaged in academia, research, and professional development within the engineering industry. She is also involved in community service initiatives, including forensic structural investigations and engineering projects aimed at rural development.
