Expert Profile
Dr. Awis Sukarni Mohmad Sabere is an esteemed Associate Professor at the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Holding a B.Sc (Hons) in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry (2008) from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Dr. Awis further pursued his academic journey with a Master's degree in Chemistry (2012) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), supported by the UKM Zamalah Scheme scholarship. His academic excellence led him to earn a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Formulation (2016) from the School of Pharmacy at University College London (UCL), funded by the prestigious SLAB/SLAI scholarship.
With a strong foundation in pharmaceutical formulation, Dr. Awis has honed his expertise in drug delivery and 3D printing, focusing on innovative methods to advance pharmaceutical sciences. His research contributions, especially in analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical formulation, have been recognised internationally, with publications in high-impact journals and accolades in various innovation competitions.
In addition to his academic and research roles, Dr. Awis has been an influential leader within IIUM, serving as the Head of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department from 2021 to 2023. He is also actively involved with Institut Kimia Malaysia, where he has served as the Chairman of the Pahang Branch from 2022 to 2025 and has been a council member since 2022. His dedication to the field is further demonstrated through his role as a Titular Member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) for the 2024-2025 term under Division VII (Chemistry & Human Health). He is currently serving as Deputy Dean of Student Development & Community Engagement in Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, IIUM.
Dr. Awis continues to make significant contributions to the field of pharmaceutical sciences, particularly in the areas of drug delivery systems and 3D printing technologies, driving innovation and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
