Expert Profile
Dr. Mohammad Norazmi Ahmad is an Associate Professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2015. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemical Sciences) from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT, 2007) and a Master of Science (Chemistry) from UKM (2008). He was awarded the SLAB/SLAI scholarship to pursue his doctoral studies at UKM. Upon completing his Ph.D. in June 2015, Dr. Norazmi was appointed as an Assistant Professor at IIUM and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021, within just six years of service. He is also a registered chemist and a certified Chemical Health Risk Assessment assessor, recognized by the Institute Kimia Malaysia (IKM) and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH). His current research focuses on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Industry 4.0 (IR 4.0) initiatives. His expertise spans water treatment, computational chemistry, food safety and security, occupational safety and health (OSH), artificial intelligence, machine learning, chemometric analysis, and renewable energy. Between 2015 and 2025, Dr. Norazmi has secured over RM1.5 million in research and consultancy grants from both international and national bodies. These include the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MoHE), Nestlé Products Sdn Bhd, Green Highway Auto-City Sdn Bhd, Greenfinite Sdn Bhd, among others. Since 2019, he has published over 57 journal articles, 70% of which are indexed in ISI. He also serves as a reviewer for several high-impact journals, including Chemical Engineering Journal, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Food Chemistry, Scientific Reports, Journal of Molecular Structure, Industrial Crops and Products, Synthetic Communications, and Talanta. Dr. Norazmi’s outstanding contributions have earned him multiple accolades, including the Young Researcher Award (Chemistry), Junior Researcher Award (KOS), Top 10 Researchers for Joint Publications Award (IIUM), High Impact Responsible Research Award (KOS), and Best Journal Publication Award (KOS), presented by the Venus International Foundation and IIUM between 2020 and 2022. He was also appointed by the Ministry of Finance Malaysia as an advisor and committee member for the Sungai Lembing sustainability initiative. Beyond research, Dr. Norazmi has held several leadership roles, including Head of the Drug and Poison Call Centre at the IIUM Poison Centre (2020–2021), Head of the IIUM Research Unit of Recreational Park (2018–2019), and Head of the Department of Chemistry, Kulliyyah of Science (2017–2018). He also served on the committee of the International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART) in 2017 and 2021. He currently serves as Treasurer and Board Member of ANALIS (2017–2028), and holds memberships with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC, 2011–2025), American Chemical Society (ACS, 2021–2025), and Institute Kimia Malaysia (IKM, 2018–2025).
