Expert Profile


Putri Haryati Ibrahim is an accomplished academic and landscape architect, currently serving as an Associate Professor at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She has held various academic leadership and administrative positions, including her current role as Deputy Dean (Academic and Internationalisation) of KAED, as well as Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture (2021–2025). Previously, she also served as the department’s Academic Advisor in 2019–2021 and 2008–2009. 

Prior to joining IIUM, she began her professional career as a Landscape Architect at the Petaling Jaya City Council (2003–2007). As an academic, her research interests encompass landscape architecture, environmental studies, tourism and recreational planning, with particular emphasis on policy and regulatory frameworks within the built environment. To date, she has published more than 30 journal articles, authored 4 books, contributed 5 book chapters, and supervised numerous Master’s and PhD candidates. Her expertise is also reflected in various research and consultancy projects related to landscape planning, recreational development, urban and rural sociology, and social policy. 

Putri Haryati has been a Corporate Member of the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM) since 2017 and previously served as Assistant Honorary Treasurer of ILAM for the 2022–2024 session. Her contributions have been recognised through numerous prestigious national and international awards. Among these, her research team received an Honour Award under the Researcher Category at the Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards (MLAA 2018). Her academic excellence has also been acknowledged through several accolades, including the Community and Industry Collaboration Award (Social Sciences) at the university level during IIUM Takrim 2025, the Murabbi Award at the KAED Townhall & Takrim 2023, and the Promising Academic Staff Award at KAED Takrim Day 2020.
