Expert Profile

I joined the Department of  Fundamental and Interdisciplinary Studies (KIRKHS), at  International Islamic University Malaysia in May 2019. I teach two courses:  “ETHICS AND FIQH OF CONTEMPORARY ISSUES” and “THE ISLAMIC WORLDVIEW, KNOWLEDGE AND CIVILIZATION.” I have good experience in the field of Islamic Studies in Arabic and English. In Syria (2007-2014), I taught  at two prestigious religious institutions (Al-Fatih and Kuftaru Institutes ). Taught topics included: Orientalism, Islam and the West, the dialogue of Civilizations, and Islamic terms in English. My goal in teaching is to guide students in the evaluation of evidence, critical thinking, and argument development. Therefore, in my classes, I create experiences and environments that help students to engage, learn deeply and independently. I obtained my MA in Islamic Studies from Loughborough University (2006). In 2018, I completed my PhD in Islamic thought and Civilization from IIUM. My main research interests are politics and religion, Islam and other civilizations, and religious revivalism. I have published dozens of books and articles.
