Expert Profile

Dr. Mohd Hanif Jainlabdin is an Assistant Professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), specialising in molecular biology, microbiology, and planetary health. His academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences (Hons.) from IIUM in 2011, followed by a Master’s in Health Sciences from the National University of Malaysia (UKM), where he focused on developing diagnostic tests for fungal infections. He earned his Ph.D. in Biology from Royal Holloway College, University of London, in 2019, where he developed rapid and efficient diagnostic tools for invasive candidiasis.

Dr. Jainlabdin has secured numerous grants and accolades for his research contributions. Notably, in April 2024, he was awarded the Southeast Asia One Health University Network Fellowship by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). His work has also been supported by the Microbiology Society (UK) and IIUM. In addition to his research, Dr. Jainlabdin plays significant leadership roles. He currently leads the Centralised Laboratory Services at the Institute of Planetary Survival for Sustainable Well-being. He has previously served as the IT Coordinator for the Kulliyyah of Nursing and as the Coordinator of the COVID-19 Task Force at IIUM.

A frequent speaker at national and international conferences, Dr. Jainlabdin is deeply committed to community engagement. He is actively involved in initiatives such as the Early Childhood Planetary Health Learning Programme (EARTHLING) and beach clean-up efforts with local fishing communities. His work advances diagnostic science and fosters planetary health and sustainable well-being.
