Expert Profile
Ir. Dr. Siti Fauziah Toha is currently a Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Mechatronics, Faculty of Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She specializes in Modelling and Analysis of Complex System (MACS), Control Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence Optimization, Assistive Devices and Bio-inspired Robotics, Electric Vehicles and Green renewable Energy. She previously helmed as the Head of Research (2018) and the Deputy Dean of Postgraduate (2019-2021) at KOE, IIUM. She has currently appointed and served as the Engineering Accreditation Council Panel by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) within her capacity as a Professional Engineer. She is also a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered by the Engineering Council with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK. Dr Toha is appointed as both Visiting Professor at London South Bank University, UK and the University of Tun Hussein Onn, Malaysia from 2023 until present.
Being highly motivated, she was inspired to endeavor her expertise in transforming healthcare and electric vehicle power management for sustainable wellbeing. Focus was given on using AI and robotics with innovative challenges to maximize the benefits associated with IR4.0 and related convergent technologies in quest to aid the targeted groups for an increased capacity building, motivation and economic growth. She has shown her strong capability in research and extensively involved in 45 projects handling a total of RM 3.7 million grants as principal researcher as well as co-researcher spanning over national, international, industrial and societal related grants with more than 100 paper publications with 18 H-Index (Scopus). As the recipient of IIUM Most Promising Academic Award 2019, she also won various gold medals and special awards for prestigious innovation in MTE, PECIPTA and IMDC with 7 patents filed. Prof Toha is crowned winner of the 3rd KANS Scientific Competition 2022, in the Field category of ICT and AI with research title: A Bio Inspired AI-Based Obstacle Avoidance and Geospatial Route Prediction Assistive Travelling for Visually Impaired Community. In 2023, Prof Toha received recognition as the Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia.
Prof Toha is currently the Vice President of PERINTIS Malaysia which is a registered organization in Malaysia, which consists of Muslim professionals, scientists, engineers and technocrat with mission is to lead in the development, establishment and utilisation of science for the well-being of man and the environment. Prof Toha has also actively involved with the Young Scientist Network (YSN-ASM) and appointed as the secretariat for the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) Energy Committee and the ASM MyNet Zero Task Force comprising synergy of activists advocating Energy Sustainability and working toward Net Zero RESET (Net Zero Emission for a Resilient Society by 2050) as a solution to Climate Resilience. Prior to that she involved in review and formulation for Malaysia’s National Policy of Science Technology & Innovation (NPSTI) 2021-2030.
She graduated with B. Eng (Hons) from the University Technology PETRONAS, received MSc from Universiti Sains Malaysia and completed PhD from the University of Sheffield, UK in 2010 researching on computational intelligence techniques for flexible manoeuvring system.
