Expert Profile
Mohamed Asmy Bin Mohd Thas Thaker obtained his B.Economics (Hons), Master of Economics and Ph.D Economics from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Upon completion of his Ph.D, he joined IIUM in October 2014 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and later promoted as Associate Professor in 2019. He specialises in Economic Development, SMEs Islamic Economics, Waqf, Zakat and Islamic Banking & Finance. He published many empirical articles in the top-ranked journals indexed in SSCI, ABDC, SCOPUS, MyCITE, and ERA. There are close to 100 articles in various journals, proceedings, conference papers, working papers, and policy paper. He has received various grants (internal and external amounted more than MYR500,000). His research outputs are recognised internationally and earned several awards such as Distinguished Paper Award, Best Paper Awards, and Emerald Literati Award. He is also received several awards at faculty and University levels such as High Impact Responsible Research Award, High Citation in Indexed Journal Award, Active Researcher Award and High Joint Publication Award. Currently, he is a Head of Department of Economics, Research Fellow of Centre of Islamic Economics, IIUM and Life Member of Malaysian Economic Association.
