ChM. Ts. Dr. Saiful Arifin is a Registered Chemist and a Professional Technologist in Chemical Technology who is working as an Assistant Professor under the Department of Chemistry, Kulliyyah of Science, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He obtained his PhD from the University of Southampton, UK under the supervision of Dr. Guy Denuault and Prof Andrew L Hector where he fabricated metal nitride microelectrodes. His research interest is developing electrochemical sensors for environmental water, wastewater, and airborne pollutants. Other than that, he is also interested in studying biosorbents in removing organic waste from water or wastewater. He had closed an internal grant and graduated a masters degree student. To date, he had published more than 20 articles and 3 book chapters. Recently, he had also copyrighted an interactive kit called 'Volta Kit - Let's learn electrochemistry. Due to his huge contribution to the scientific community and general society, he was awarded with the Promising Academic Award in 2024 and 6 Star MYRA Achiever in 2022 by the Kulliyyah of Science, IIUM. He also received a travel grant from Institut Kimia Malaysia - Pahang Branch (IKMPB) in 2023.
He obtained his B. Sc (Hons) Environmental Technology minor in Occupational Safety and Health and Diploma in Science major in biology from Universiti Teknologi MARA. Prior to working at IIUM, he worked at GP Batteries (M) Sdn. Bhd as a Product Development Engineer/Researcher under the Research and Development Department where he had to find an alternative compound for the corrosion inhibitor which are placed inside the batteries.
He is currently a Chemical Health Risk Assessor (CHRA) registered under the Department of Safety and Health, Ministry of Human Resources. He is also currently a Microcredential Liaison Officer for the Kulliyyah of Science and Corporate Coordinator for the Department of Chemistry. He has served IKMPB as a Co-opted Member, Assistant Treasurer, and Honorary Secretary.
