Expert Profile
Dr. Hamid Fauzi serves as an Associate Professor at the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, International Islamic University Malaysia, a position he commenced in November 2021.
He earned his PhD in Applied Biochemistry from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 1998. Following this, he participated in postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Bioscience and Human-Technology in Japan under the AIST Post Doctoral Fellowship Program for two years (1998-2000), before moving to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Ohio University, USA, where he spent four years.
In 2005, he became a member of the Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), remaining there until June 2011. He then continued his career at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), for a decade before joining the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in November 2021.
Dr. Fauzi’s research investigates the design, selection, and characterization of functional nucleic acids with therapeutic and diagnostic potential. He is particularly interested in the molecular recognition mechanisms of RNA aptamers and their applications in targeted drug delivery, biosensing, and personalised medicine. His studies also explore the intersection of RNA biology and pharmacogenetics, aiming to elucidate RNA-mediated pathways that influence interindividual variability in drug response.
