Expert Profile

Dr. Noor Yuslida binti Hazahari is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where she has been a valued member since 2018. Her academic journey began at the IIUM Matriculation Centre in 2001. She completed her Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) with a specialisation in Food Biotechnology also from IIUM in 2007.

After three years of teaching at the International Islamic School (IIS) in Kuala Lumpur, where she discovered her passion for preparing students for the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), Dr. Noor Yuslida continued her academic pursuit. She earned her Master of Science in Biotechnology Engineering again from IIUM in 2013. As a recipient of the prestigious Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship, she completed her Ph.D. in Marine Life Science at Hokkaido University, Japan, in 2018. Her doctoral research focused on exploring the oxidative stability of selected plant and seaweed lipids, with an emphasis on their potential applications as halal alternative ingredients.

Dr. Noor Yuslida further enhanced her knowledge in Islamic disciplines by pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Studies (PG-DIS) at IIUM. This has enabled her to integrate a deeper understanding of Islamic principles into her research and teaching, particularly in the areas of halal science and ethical practices.

Since her return to Malaysia, Dr. Noor Yuslida has actively expanded her research interests beyond her core specialisation. Her expertise now spans a wide range of areas, including halal alternative ingredients, plant and seaweed lipid technology, halal food science, biotechnology, and bio-functional materials. She is particularly passionate about the intersection of Qur'anic values, ethics, technology, society, and sustainability in halal-related research.

At INHART, Dr. Noor Yuslida contributes to three main areas of focus:

  - Halal Products
  - Food Sciences & Nutrition
  - Medical & Health Sciences

She teaches several courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including:

She also serves as a key member and advisor in several Shari’ah-compliant research groups and projects within IIUM. Additionally, she contributes as an editorial board member and reviewer for various peer-reviewed halal-related journals.

In addition to her academic and research roles, Dr. Noor Yuslida is deeply involved in student welfare. She volunteers as a Fellow and Academic Advisor (Musrifah) for Mahallah Asma', where she plays a key role in fostering student engagement and well-being on campus. Her commitment to her students, combined with her breadth of expertise, has made her a trusted mentor and educator in the field of halal science.
