Expert Profile
Fazia Adyani Ahmad Fuad is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering & Sustainability, Faculty of Engineering. Fazia's academic path began with a BSc (Biochemistry), which was obtained from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2004. She then furthered her studies for a Masters degree at the same institution, specialising in Plant Biotechnology and successfully completed her studies in 2008.
She later pursued her doctoral degree (Structural Biochemistry) at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. She was awarded her Ph.D in 2012 and served as a lecturer at Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM), Health Campus, University Science Malaysia, before joining IIUM in 2014. Fazia's Ph.D project focused on drug design and discovery analyses on specific protein targets, in collaboration with University Catholique de Louvain, Brussels and National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. Since then, she has published her work in a number of international conferences and ISI-indexed journals. Currently, Fazia is interested in investigating the potential of specific enzymes that are involved in various metabolic pathways as chemotherapeutic targets for tropical diseases, such as dengue and malaria. Her main interests include a combination of in silico drug design and biochemical analyses on specific protein targets, which allows further understanding of various protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions.
