Expert Profile

Nurasikin specialized in mental health nursing to fill a position in the Department of Special Care Nursing. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Kulliyyah of Nursing. Her research primarily focuses on mental health, with a particular interest in spirituality, religiosity, and their connections to mental well-being. Her Ph.D. research, titled “Spiritual Recovery in People Diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in Malaysia,” explored the role of spiritual resources in this population through the lens of Bourdieu’s concept of symbolic capital. Building on this work, she expanded the notion of symbolic capital into the concept of spiritual capital. Deeply inspired by Bourdieu’s trinity of habitus, capital, and field, she aims to broaden her research interests to include the social phenomena associated with various disorders and well-being, such as spiritual distress and smoking behaviors. In addition to her academic role, Nurasikin is currently serving as a spiritual care provider at SASMEC Hospital, following her completion of Clinical Pastoral Education sponsored by SASMEC in 2024.
