Firdaus Yusof is a professionally registered optometrist who obtained his Bachelor of Optometry (Hons) from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 2002. In 2003, he joined the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where he contributed to the establishment of the Department of Optometry and Visual Science (DOVS) under the Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences. He completed his Master of Optometry at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, in 2006, with a focus on colour vision. Upon returning to IIUM, he assisted in the development of the IIUM Optometry Clinic, supporting its clinical and service infrastructure. He earned his Ph.D. in Vision Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in 2014. His doctoral research focused on retinal blood flow, glaucoma, and nocturnal hypotension—areas that continue to inform his academic and research work. Firdaus has held multiple terms as Head of DOVS, including serving as its inaugural head. He is also actively involved with the Malaysian Optical Council, contributing to programme accreditation and institutional audits for optometry and opticianry education across Malaysia. His current research interests include myopia, with emphasis on optical coherence tomography (OCT) applications and ophthalmic interventions for myopia control.
