Expert Profile
Dr. Ahmad Arif bin Zulkefli is a Malaysian academic specialising in Islamic theology and ʿIlm al-Kalām, with a particular focus on classical Islamic manuscripts and the intellectual traditions of the Islamic West. He earned both his Bachelor's degree in Fundamental Studies and his PhD in al-ʿAqīdah wa al-ʿUlūm al-Sharʿiyyah from Université Cadi Ayyad in Marrakesh, Morocco. He also holds a Master's degree in the Science of Dogmas and Religions in the Patrimony of Scholars of the Islamic West from Université Hassan II in Casablanca. His postgraduate research centres on Islamic theological manuscripts dating back 300 to 700 years, with a particular interest in philology and codicology. He has received specialised training in these fields at a monastic library in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Spain, as well as at Bibliothèque de l'Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris, France. Currently, Dr. Ahmad Arif is a postdoctoral fellow at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE), part of Université PSL – Sorbonne in Paris (October 2024 – September 2026). He also serves as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion and Philosophy, AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
