Alhamdulillah and with the greatest of pleasure, the Office of Executive Director (Development & Planning) wishes to congratulate the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for winning the National Energy Awards 2020 under the Special Awards Category (Energy Performance Contracting).  This is an effort in collaboration with Cenergi EE Sdn. Bhd. as the Energy Services Company (ESCO) for our project in IIUM Gombak Campus. Winners in the same category are Politeknik Merlimau of Melaka and TM Node in Bandar Tun Razak.

The announcement of NEA 2020 winners was officially made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) in November 2020. However, due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic situation, the long-awaited Appreciation Ceremony was only held on 6th April 2021 at The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The ceremony was graced by the presence of YB Dato’ Dr. Shamsul Anuar bin Hj. Nasarah, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

The participants of NEA 2020 are organisations that have transformed their operations or buildings/premises to be more energy efficient or those that have successfully implemented renewable energy systems to reduce carbon footprint. 30 out of a total of 110 participants were selected as winners of NEA 2020 through a rigorous evaluation process involving a panel of professional and experienced judges which comprises of three categories:  Category 1 - Energy Efficiency (EE), Category 2 - Renewable Energy (RE) and Category 3 - Special Awards.

Three Special Awards, namely Institute of Higher Education, Sustainable Energy Financing and Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) were introduced in NEA 2020 edition to inspire public and private universities to undertake RE and EE initiatives, to recognise financial institutions' support in financing RE and EE projects, as well as to promote Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) in Malaysia.

This is IIUM’s second participation in NEA since its inauguration in 2018 as part of the ministry’s initiatives to encourage companies and institutions in Malaysia to reduce carbon footprint by minimising dependence on fossil-fuel generated electricity.  It is anticipated that IIUM may take part in future NEA program insyaa Allah as the university is currently involved actively in a number of EE and RE projects as part of IIUM’s Go Green Initiatives.

The Office of Executive Director (Development & Planning) would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude to all parties involved in ensuring the success and smooth-running of this NEA 2020 award-winning project, Alhamdulillah
